On International Women’s Day we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Gold mining, for much of its history has been male dominated but this is starting to change. Whilst there is a lot more that needs to be done to achieve gender parity, our Members are working on attracting and retaining a more diverse workforce.

Artisanal and small-scale gold mining is very different from large scale mining in terms of how its regulated and how it’s done. We explore ASGM in this video.

Gold has a unique story when it comes to climate change as almost all emissions come from mining. So if we can decarbonise the mine site, we can look to decarbonise the whole gold value chain, reinforcing gold’s potential as a climate-risk mitigating asset.

We worked with our members and collaborated with key industry stakeholders to set out a framework that addresses key environmental, social and governance issues for the gold mining sector.

In our conversations with investors we often get asked the same questions about gold’s ESG credentials, and this new video series aims to answer them by showing different perspectives from within the World Gold Council and our membership.

If responsibly mined, gold mining can contribute to the socio-economic development of the countries they operate in.

Given recent events, a continued focus on universal health and well-being has never been as important as it is today.

Last month we participated in the Responsible Asset Owners Global Symposium. We have been a supporter of this event series since its inception in 2019 as it brings together leading investors to tackle important topics around the ESG agenda within the investment community.

Last month, we held a webinar with S&P Global and our Members at which S&P presented their Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Many of our Members already submit the CSA and this was an opportunity to review industry data from past assessments and discuss how elements of the RGMPs could potentially be incorporated into their methodology going forward.
